On a soaking wet Sunday morning, OSJ travelled the short distance to Leigh to play on the now infamous 3G pitch. (It’s the future) And what a cracking game the two teams served up.

The pitch might be artificial but this was full bloodied Rugby League at its best.. Orrell scored first when some great offloads across the line, saw Keanan Shepherd and Owen Morris exchanged passes on the touch line, before Keanan found the space to sprint clear to the line.

Good drives out of the red zone by Captain Declan Parkinson and Man of the Match Callum Baines created holes in the Leigh defence for Oliver Partington to exploit superbly for a well taken try. The score 0-8

Leigh came back strong and took full advantage of some uncharacteristic slack Orrell defence to score a good try out wide.

Upbeat from the try, Leigh pressed on, and made Orrell work really hard in defence, with Alex, Keanan and Callum all making try saving tackles close to their line. Out wide; Jake Sculthorpe and Ben Hodgkinson also stood firm against the onslaught of the Leigh attack.

Ollie punished Leigh for not taking their chances, with another brilliantly taken try. Great hands and ball movement by James Molyneux and Marcus Grimshaw fed the ball wide to Ollie who streaked down the left wing hugging the line whilst evading the would be tackles. The half time score 4-12

The second half saw Leigh fired up; and they really took the game to Orrell, scoring three quick fire tries without reply.

Orrell were well and truly under the cosh. Robbie Freeman and Thomas Murray tried bravely to clear Orrell's line, only to be met by some solid Leigh defence.

Midway through the second half, Leigh East sensed victory and attacked Orrell relentlessly. But this team in Blue & Gold do not give in easily; and with their coaches words ringing in their ears they defended their line with a determination last seen at Roark’s Drift.

Keanan and Ollie lead the way with 38 tackles between them; James also tackled into double figures.

With the end of the game drawing closer, Alex charged for the line and crashed over to equal the scores. The final score 16-16

A great game by two very determined teams, a fitting way to end the regular season.

Special mention today for Ben Winstanley who playing his first game for Orrell; the little fella showed courage beyond his stature getting stuck into the tackles with his new teamates. Well Done
